CURIOSITY ABOUT OUR STRUCTURE

The four buildings that make up the Goldenstern Townhouse date back to 1280, as already mentioned, and thanks to meticulous restoration work, parts of the original frescoes and stucco decorations from the period of the buildings’ construction can still be seen inside the rooms. One of the rooms even houses the oldest blown glass window in the city, which is still perfectly preserved today. Some rooms have been created where the old city wall of Bolzano once stood, thus keeping the link with the city’s history alive.Particular attention was also paid to the choice of materials for the renovation. Only local materials such as Meltina sandstone and solid wood from the region were used, favouring the recovery of elements from old buildings wherever possible.

Thanks to this extraordinary restoration work, in 2023 the Goldenstern Townhouse was awarded the prestigious award of ‘Historic Hotel of the Year in the Province of Bolzano’.This award was created in the 1990s with the aim of promoting the preservation of historic hotels. Starting in 2006, the Province of Bolzano adopted a model similar to that previously adopted by Switzerland, creating a local award to encourage the preservation of historic structures. Today, the award is recognised as a key resource for South Tyrol’s cultural heritage.
